Although České Budějovice is a historical town, it also has a lot of modern buildings and sights. Among such places there are: a modern swimming pool, a sports hall, the shopping centre Igy, Koh-i-noor factory (which has a long tradition in pencil making), the building of southbohemian university, Budweiser brewery ( also has a long tradition in this town), Budvar arena, Clarion hotel, the Exhibition hall and the observatory.
